Today Americans are voting for their next President, either Obama or McCain. The Presidential election in USA today is interesting because one of the candidate, Barack Obama, is an Afro-American, i.e. halfly black man, since his mother is a white American lady, while his father was an African from Kenya. In addition to that, his step father was an Indonesian. Therefore the struggle of Obama to be the President of USA is representing the struggle of non white skin Americans in dominantly white skin American society.
Moreover, the fact that Obama’s father and step father were muslim, he also bring sentiment of muslims all over the world as he is closely related to muslim family. A rumor that Obama is a muslim has been put forward by his oponent to raise religious sentiment to American voters who mostly are christians. In response to the “black” campaign or insinuations from some Republicans, Colin Powell the former State secretary, whom himself is actually a republican, backed Obama for this case as he eloquently stated:
“Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he’s a Christian. He’s always been a Christian,” he said. “But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer’s no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president? Yet, I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion, ‘He’s a Muslim and he might be associated terrorists.’ This is not the way we should be doing it in America.”
The fact that Obama previously has won the primary election, the race against Hillary Clinton to represent Democrat party for Presidential candidacy, gave us a clear indication that today a racial and religious sentiment was actually not working anymore to American society. That is a very positive progress for the American society itself and will certainly give good impact to the world community.
It is interesting to find the fact that not only Democrats’ supporters and, I believe, many migrants and non white skin people in America who wish Obama will be the next President of USA, but also almost all people around the world, if we can ask them one by one ! Why ? Because people around the world are expecting the change in the policy of American Government from the current repressive and military agresive Superpower into a more humane Superpower. Just like the slogan being used by Obama: CHANGE WE NEED. Obama representing the struggle of justice, the struggle against the racial issue that face mankind, especially in America, Europe and Australia for ages !
Offcouse, there are several other issues for the Americans for deciding who they are going to vote for their next President, such as economy issue which is now pushing America into economic recession, Iraq issue which already devided the two parties as McCain will continue stupid and arrogant Bush policy, while Obama opposed it and promised to withdraw American troops by 16 months after he become the President America. Surely the world need a change in American leadership, from the current arrogant Republican domination to hopefully a much more humble, reasonable and productive democrat leadership.
People all over the world are expecting the emerge of a new American President who will bring peacefull and prosperous world, and that can be offerred more by Barack Obama rather than by McCain. May God give victory to Barack Obama and make American government to act more reasonable and more humane to other countries, especially to muslim countries.
