I found a clump of water hyacinth in the vicinity of a school on the way to Cililin. The plants grew on an area that supposed to be a pond which became muddy land, since it received domestic sewage from the houses in the area. The plants grew very well, tall and possesed big leaves. The pond was hardly seen since its surface was totally covered with the plants. Some people were fishing in the pond, they were expecting to catch some cat fishes. Some plants were flowering nicely.
With the assistance of my students who were going to do research on water hyacinth potential for remediation, we collected some of the plants. It was not that easy to collect the plants in the mud, unless you were equiped with long boot as what I wear.
